The kestrel is a small falcon with long narrow wings and tail, and slim body. Males have brick-orange plumage with dark spots on the back, blue head and tail, light chest and belly and a dark mustache. Females have similar but less contrasted pattern. Kestrels have a peculiar hunting strategy, hovering to find prey. In Berlengas, it is possible to see kestrels during most of the year.
