To achieve the proposed objectives, the following actions will be implemented:
HABITATS AND ENDEMIC FLORA
- Map the endemic and exotic plants of the Berlengas archipelago
- Remove the Hottentot fig from Berlenga Island
- Promote the propagation of endemic plants
SEABIRDS
- Monitoring the breeding biology of the Common Murre, European Shag, Cory’s Shearwater, Band-rumped Storm-petrel and Yellow-legged Gull
- Study the at-sea activity of seabirds to identify their key foraging areas inside the Berlengas SPA
- Building artificial nests for Cory’s shearwaters and Band-rumped storm-petrels
CONSERVATION
- Study the population dynamics of introduced mammals and proceed to their removal
- Test new methodologies for the population control of Yellow-legged gulls and establish exclusion areas
- Evaluate the impact of fisheries on seabirds and mitigate the mortality related to interactions with fishing gears
MANAGEMENT OF BERLENGAS SPECIAL PROTECTION AREA
- Build a new visitors centre in Berlenga Island
- Restore the walking trail network of Berlenga Island
- Monitor the number of visitors to the Berlenga Island
- Promote the cooperation of stakeholders to identify problems and expectations for the SPA
- Promote the natural values of Berlengas SPA and promote environmental awareness activities
